Living Provident is a website and blog for those of us who want to prepare for emergency’s and times of personal need, people wanting to get back to basics and people who have the desire to be healthy and happy.
Who are you?
Our names are Rhett and Emmaline, and in April 2008, our family went through a complete priority check. We had to determine for ourselves whether the fast paced life of both of us working, eating out, hiring a maid, and barely seeing our two sons who were being raised by daycare was what we wanted or whether we wanted something better.
July 1, 2008 Rhett left his job and the associated income, we left the house on the river with acreage and a huge payment to go with it, the kids were removed from daycare, and Emmaline arranged to telecommute and work at a remote office location for her office. We moved 208 miles to a smaller community that as a general rule is cheaper to live in.
Rhett threw himself headfirst into the role of ‘Daddy Homemaker’ to get our household under control including our finances, shopping habits, and regular household duties of cooking and cleaning. Not to mention our children’s education since our four year old will be homeschooled using a public/private partnership that’s education and curriculum is parent administered.
Six months into this endeavor Rhett was a pro at running the home and with half the income of before we were thriving, no need to worry about living paycheck to paycheck or wonder if the kids were safe, being fed or had enough love. But at the same time Rhett thought he could take on a larger role of teaching others around the world how to step back to the basics of life just as we have done or if the basics are a way of life to teach self-sufficiency.
That is how Living Provident began.
What is Living Provident?
Living Provident is an exploration of getting back to basics. It provides everyone information including videos of how-to store food for emergency situations, inexpensively make your own cleaning products that are better for your family, shop for only the essentials and cut out the excess and many other useful tips and tricks.
We encourage two-way dialogue and really appreciate all of the comments that people leave. We follow through with requests and try to help you in any way that we can.
In addition, we try to keep this site clutter-free only advertising those products that we use and endorse. If we would not use it then we will not recommend it to you. However please understand that we have created this site as a free resource to everyone, including all of our videos. It does come with a price to us though so please be not offended by the few ads we have. We have to pay the bills somehow.
If you would like to donate to Living Provident you may do so here.
How do you update Living Provident? Could I create my own site?
We use a weblog tool called WordPress. It lets us update our Web site from anywhere that has an internet connection and a Web browser. We just loaded in the website template and configured it for our needs. We use a little HTML and Javascript, however there are templates that you can use that do not require that knowledge. It works great for our needs. If you want to start a weblog and don’t want to bother with the setup, you could try Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, or WordPress.
Will Living Provident link to me?
The short answer is yes. All you have to do is shoot us an email introducing us to your blog/website and why you think your content would help our readers. If we like your site we will add you to my blogroll. The blogroll chooses twenty links at random from our big list of links and displays them on each page, so you’ll show up on a good percentage of all of the pages here at Living Provident. We don’t just add any site, you must have good content that relates to our site and readers.
Another way is to link to us and we will discover you. Any site that links into our site is tracked by us. As we see that a lot of visitors are coming from your site to mine we will naturally check you out and if you relate then we will link back.
Lastly, we find other sites by those who interact with us on a regular basis. If you visit and comment and interact we will repay by visiting your site, interacting with your viewers.
