Many feel that home remedies can substitute for some common medical treatments.  I have mixed feeling about them.  I generally like to try a home remedy first and see what kind of results that I can achieve from it, however I am not so obsessed with them that I do not seek professional medical advice for my family.  I feel that I have been born in this era for a reason and there are modern medical conventions that I am very happy to take advantage of.  But that is not to say that I am going to throw away all of the natural treatments that my grandmother and mother have passed down to me for so many years.  This is just one of them.

Unfortunately Pinkeye is a common ailment that affect many people at one time or another in their life.  It is not specific to just children or adults, but instead affects both.

You can tell you have Pinkeye is your eye swells and turns puffy around the eyelid.  It will also become red and itchy.  In addition, you may awake and one or both of your eyes may be sealed shut from eye discharge that the virus emits.  Your eye(s) may feel like there is dirt in your eye or that it itches or burns. In addition, the white of the eye can turn pinkish red and become inflamed.

How do you catch Pinkeye you may wonder, well it is as easy to catch as the common cold, an ear infection, a sinus infection or a sore throat.  If you have allergies it may instigate pinkeye as could various chemicals and pollutants.

Pinkeye seems to be really alarming because it comes on quickly and looks dramatic but most doctors say that it does not cause permanent vision and eye damage.  Another distressing thing about it is that it spreads rapidly and easily.  Pinkeye can be passed on by touching a contaminated person or by touching something that they touched.

Even scarier is that in the summertime Pinkeye can spread through the water in the swimming pool.

Chamomile Tea Bags are the best home remedy that I have found for Pinkeye.  All you need to do is place a single, moist tea bag on each closed eye for about ten minutes.  Repeat the process every couple of hours immediately after you are sure you or your child has the infection. Be sure that the tea is 100% natural chamomile.

You can even wash your eyes with the tea using a small sterilized medicine cup or eye wash cup, or let the tea soak into a cotton ball and then hold it gently against your eyes.
